Rookie card terms
What makes a card a rookie?
Start with the player’s rookie season and the exact release. Base rookies, rookie-year inserts, and earlier prospect cards are different categories. Players who began overseas may have both Japanese or international rookie issues and later MLB or NBA rookie cards.
Same player, different card
Match the year, manufacturer, set, card number, and version. A parallel changes features of a base card; an image variation may use a different photograph. A later reprint is not the original issue.
Raw or graded?
Raw means ungraded. A graded card has been assessed and sealed in a holder by a grading company. Look at clear photographs and compare cards of the same version in similar condition. A high grade does not promise future value.
Asking price or sold price?
An asking price is what a seller wants. Recent comparable sales help show what buyers have paid. Compare the same version and condition, and include shipping in your budget.
About The Rookie Card
Rookie cards can get confusing.
A player might have a flagship rookie, a Chrome version, prospect cards, variations, and other cards from the same year.
